Dr. Aisling O' Beirn
Associate Lecturer
Background
A native of Galway, Aisling O' Beirn was appointed to as an associate lecture in Sculpture at the University of Ulster in 2004. She is a member of staff in the School of Art and Design. She is a practicing artist based in Belfast. She is a board member of Flaxart Studios an artist run studio group based in Belfast. She is also a member of Visual Arts Ireland and Catalyst Arts.
Education
She completed her B.A. Hons in fine Art, (Sculpture) at University of Ulster, Belfast in 1990. From 1990 - 2001 she worked as a professional artist based in Belfast, exhibiting both nationally and Internationally. From 2000 - 2005 she worked as a part time lecturer on The Fine Art course at Dublin Institute of Technology, as well as working as a visiting lecturer in various colleges around Ireland. . In 2001 she began her joint practice PhD on The relationship between urban space and virtual space at The University of Ulster, completing in 2004.
Research Fields
Her main research interests are examining the use of local knowledge to explore the politics of place through both gallery based and public sculptural / installational projects.
