Dr Paul Moore

Lecturer

Background

A native of Northern Ireland, Paul Moore was appointed lecturer in Media Production in 1999 but given the developing nature of his work he transferred to the School of Art and Design in 2006. He has acted as Course Director for a range of programmes and designed the University's MA in Film and Television Management course which is sponsored by the Northern Ireland Film and Television Commission. He is a member of the UK Soundscape Association and the Sonic Arts Network. He has worked extensively in Southern Africa and is visiting Professor at CityVarsity University in Capetown. He is also Honorary Research Fellow at Coventry University. He works as a freelance presenter with BBC Radio Ulster.

Education

He took a B.A. Hons in English and History at the University of Ulster in 1976. He then completed a PGCE at St. John's College in York before entering further education as a lecturer. He undertook a part-time MA in Twentieth Century Affairs in 1981 before completing a PhD in 1999, both through the University of Ulster.

Research Fields

His main research areas are sound art, the digital arts and, in particular, the relationship between sonic experience and identity. Most recently his research work has become more exhibition-based which has necessitated extensive work on the issue of the relationship between theory and practice.
